AUGUST PRE-SEASON knocks and strains

AUGUST

PRE-SEASON knocks and strains gave Nuneaton Borough a minor injury crisis before the start of the season which kicked off on August 22. Several players were carrying niggling injuries that were picked up in pre-season friendly games. Paul Culpin was struggling to shake off a groin strain and Tony Simpson was doubtful with an ankle injury along with Dave Whetton who was not 100 per cent fit. Fans were concerned at the time about the future of Paul Culpin at the Boro. The then manager George Rooney said: "Paul's future is virtually settled now and I can't see any problems in keeping him at the club."

August 22: BORO 1, STOURBRIDGE 1 Att: 716 Nuneaton Borough kicked off the 1992-93 season against the Glassboys with a 1-1. Peter Albut was on the mark for Boro.

August 25: BILSTON TOWN 3, BORO 4 Att: 208 Always difficult opponents for the Blues, Bilston again made it tough for Nuneaton but goals from Ian Cottrill, Paul Culpin (2), Rosegreen and Twigger (pen) gained Boro the three points at Queen Street.

August 29: BORO 2 v BOLDMERE 1 (FA Cup Pre) Att: 515 Nuneaton laced Boldmere St Michael's in the FA Cup Preliminary Round at Manor Park and went on to win with goals from Paul Culpin and Mark Rosegreen. This result meant that Boro went on to meet Leicester United in the next round in September.
